E3 2012: Agni's Philosophy (Luminous Tech Demo)

On the Tuesday evening at the end of Day 1 we invited all the press and media to come round to our both for a special after hours presentation. Hosted by Square Enix America and Square Enix Japan, they revealed the power of Luminous Studio, our in-house engine designed specifically with next-gen in mind. It's built to be powerful and efficient so that you get the maximum out of our games. The presentation showed how at any point they could stop, make changes (such as giving the old-man green dreadlocks) and the carry on the demo in realtime; all very impressive stuff.

We have the full presentation recorded and will be putting it up soon, but in the meantime enjoy the "AGNI’S PHILOSOPHY" video below. Remember, this is all rendered in real-time. Also, don't forget, this is a technology demonstration, not a game. You can find out more on www.agnisphilosophy.com.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw Agni's Philosophy. I instantly fell in love with it. I congratulate the developers of Agni's Philosophy and the developers of the Luminous Studio. I'm expecting and hoping that Agni will become the main character of Final Fantasy XV.
there wont be a single rpg using this engine
I can confirm that this is not only developed by Japanese studios, but that it will also be used for many of our next-generation games including RPGs.
No offense but square enix was kind of considered the joke of the show.

Nobody wants these garbagy western published games.

All we want is rpgs. Localized rpgs. Thats it

The fact that you couldnt even muster ff type zero speaks to that

Thanks
I think this was one of the best on show. Heres hoping Versus XIII has a showing at this years TGS in September. I am very impressed Square and I took the survey. With games that would look like this the next gen cant be more exciting. :D
Was excellent. What is the next generation
looks so stunning can't wait for the next-gen console's! :)
even though its a tech demo , i really liked the character Agni ..
i felt she was similar to terra for FFVI ..
but anyway the visuals are so stunning , and it promises a new level for fantasy ..
the important thing is what @neo_bahamut said ..
keeping the series to it roots will never make the game look bad
and thats what makes Final fantasy special .. because the story and the gameplay are in constant change (one that you'll never get bored from)
This is looking pretty amazing, to anyone who hasn't seen this stuff before. But from the guys at Sq-En, it's pretty much expected. What I would like to have, along with these stunning visuals, is a game that I can actually relate to! A good story! Maybe some relatable characters to go with it! Is that really asking too much?
@FFfreak26: they're still going to use the Crystal Tools for Versus XIII and perhaps other projects; Luminous Engine is made for next-gen games, while parts of it are already used for current games (such as Versus for the lighting).
Awesome video. I can clearly see the setting for the next Final Fantasy game, even agnis as a protagonist?
Great work, this is one of the most impressive videos I've seen since the Versus XIII trailer. I heard this engine will be used in Versus XIII to control the lights sistem, is that true?
Is the Crystal Tools Engine going to be scrapped?? Whilst the new engine does look impressive, many people across the world were hoping the Crystal Tools Engine would be used at least one final time on a probable XIII-3? This new engine looks like its for Versus XIII and the updated XIV 2.0
Not impress So it clearly Next gen then the outdated last gen Ps3 the lack of FF & PS3 games proves my point next year say goodbye to no more Ps3 or muti platforms from SE & MS & sony.

remember the vita how many games it got hmmm?
That's the best thing I've seen at E3 and one of the most interesting stuff Square Enix shown in a long time. I really hope they start from here to build the future of Final Fantasy and in particular Final Fantasy XV. There's every element in there to create a game that appeals to everyone and could take back the series to its formery glory. Well done Square, now show us you can make a game out of it.
Don't forget to take the survey!
