Phase 1 Beta is going to be launched on the 25th Feb.
Once FFXIV ARR launches though account functions will be reinstated, and you'll be able to register the Garlond Goggles code which will work with FFXIV ARR then, as mentioned on this page (scroll down to the third paragraph 'Special Item Codes': http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=0417b68e22d61f2520490467029ecaa466244328
The exact start date for the FFXIV ARR Beta Test is unclear, but it's believed to be sometime next week or the week after (the Beta schedule Square Enix released a few months ago mentioned a 'mid February' Beta start date, which is only a week or so away. Also as I mentioned in my earlier post SE have also asked all Legacy members to ensure their email addresses are correct in preperation for the Beta acceptance emails to be sent out.)
Incidentally, the start of the Beta isn't open access either - the very start of the Beta will be a closed beta that will only be available to FFXIV Legacy players - everyone else who applied will only join in phases 3 and 4 (which is also when the PS3 Beta starts).
Hopefully this has helped. :)
Ah well, I'm sure we'll find out more fairly soon :D
I thought there was only two tiers :O First i've heard of them giving out the same char slots, I would have thought it would have been simillar to XI's slots in terms of it being an extra £1 for each character a month.
As for the payment schemes, the info I've read has just stated that SE are still working everything out atm, but it seems like there will be three different 'membership tiers' for the game - 'entry', 'standard' and 'Legacy'.
'Legacy' is only for existing FFXIV original version players who have achieved 'Legacy status' on their account, and it has the cheapest fees and some extra bonuses on top of that, with 'Entry' being the next cheapest, but with far less options available (only one character allowed per server for instance). 'Standard' membership is more expensive but has the same amount of characters allowed as Legacy members.
In any event, this page has the three membership tiers listed (as you stated Xai the info is aimed at Legacy members, but it does give an idea of the other membership tiers and the relevant fees too: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/campaign/campaign.html#legacy )
If he could play via ps3 (if he has one) perhaps he would be able to pay for it using PSN points/currency?
Seems to be a logical way for ps3 players to pay :o
Though this is just a theory since the payment side of things is entirely web based.
I wonder how the payment system for the ps3 really will work :3
I don't know if they've ever mentioned it before or released details about that yet though.
There was a post a while back about the payments system wasn't there? Or was that just aimed at legacy peoples and their new scheme?
From what I remember there is a brand of prepaid game card you can use to buy Crysta with ('PlaySpan Ultimate Game Card' or something it's called I think) which might be worth looking into then as it that may be the only way you'll be able to play ARR.
As far as I am aware, you can pay one month.
They only suspend the account after all, they don't delete it.
However, you'll want to go over the payment stuff closely as I think it is automatically set to continuous paypent. So be careful.
Good luck! I hope you can come play the game with us~
P.s: I might be wrong but when I searched for the possibility to pay with a paysafe nothing appeared.
I find it a lot easier than using the direct debit function.
I can put the amount of crysta I want into the account, and then it's there for good. Until you no longer have enough your game will continue to use that.
That way I can put what money I have into it when I have it and won't have to worry again for ages which allows for time to save for the next crysta purchase. Thus I can't suddenly forget about the bill for it and don't have to worry about over draft too.
If you don't have the crysta available the game will be suspended until you can afford it.
I really like that function, for me as a student it is really practical.
All I can suggest is maybe try and sit down and discuss playing the game with your parents (although I admit that might be difficult as we adults can be kind of stubborn a lot of the time :p) and hopefully try to come to some kind of compromise with them (like, in return for being allowed to play you have to do chores etc in return for them or something).
As for the different payment methods, the exact fee structure for ARR hasn't been finalized yet, but the current methods available for the Square Enix Account Management System which the original FFXIV used (plus the former fees for the original version of FFXIV) are shown here: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/envi/envi04.html
To summarise though:
Direct credit card/debit card should be obvious - at the end of each month your credit card/debit card will be billed for the fees for the game, and this is automatic. This is how I paid for my FFXIV fees as well continue to pay for my FFXI fees too (I use a Visa debit card which is basically just a atm card connected to my bank account with a Visa logo on it that works like a credit card but I can only draw on what is actually in the account as it's not actually credit).
ClickNBuy is a rather shady third-party merchant who you have to set up an account with whom SE will bill each month, and then CnB will bill your credit card/debit card for that amount plus a small extra fee on top of that. I never had any trouble with them, other than having to pay a little more, but I've heard some people had real trouble with them.
Crysta is SE's version of Microsoft Points on Xbox Live - it's a form of virtual money you can use to pay for monthly fees for FFXIV/ARR and FFXI, and the actual payment with real money can be done with various means like credit card etc (as Crysta hasn't been approved in my country though it's not available for me to use sadly so I have experience with using it).
Hopefully that hasn't been too confusing for you. In any event, SE hasn't finalized the payment details for ARR yet so they may offer additional payment methods when the game is completed (like 'prepaid' cards like what WoW has).
Also, I can understand not everyone can afford to pay a regular subscription (even I've had times I've had to 'let my subscription lapse' when fees were due and have my FFXI/FFXIV accounts suspended for a week or two due to other bills being more urgent), but when you put it into perspective, it's not that expensive - I usually pay around $15 AU a month for my FFXI fees, depending on the exchange rate between euros and the Aussie dollar, while my FFXIV fees were slightly less than that when the original game was still active), and I'm on a very limited income too. But then, we're all different with different income levels and budgets, so you have to decide what's best for you.
I'm sorry if my earlier comment seemed harsh as I wasn;t trying to be nasty to you. And yes, my above comment is definetely trying to convince you to still play this, as ARR is going to be an amazing experience well worth the subscription. ;)
Ps: sry if my comment was a little confusing but i didn't had the time to correct it and see if it's right or not.
I'm glad Yoshi-P cleared that mess up before it got out of hand.
Yoshi-P and the rest of the development team have already stated categorically, that FFXIV is staying p2p, that the company "would be in trouble" if they went to a f2p model for the game. Besides, FFXI has been p2p for a decade now and has become SE's most successful game in terms of revenue (yes, even beating revenue generated by FFVII and it's countless spinoffs!), so they know that the p2p model will work for them.
Holy chocobo!
D': I wants to play so bad again now!
On a serious note. I've seen so many people on lodestone squealing like babies about the WoW thing too. However it is socially understandable, a lot of people don't know of the games that came before and around the time of WoW's sudden popularity surge.
To be fair, I really don't remember many as it's always been SW, WOW, FF, in my friends and family circle that had always been battling it out for supremecy over which was the best game/series.
So in that single minded nature, most people only know what is actually popular or what had sparked their interest.
I never would have heard of Terra or the release of GW2 had it not been for the rantings of people in my class at uni :)
So, I think we should ignore them and or forgive them. WoW admittedly has left a rather large stain on the population, I just hope XIV can leave one too. Going to be hard combat since they have like 20 expansions and half the planet as loyal slaves/followers, not to mention the years on it now.
Amusing really, I once said "No, that game won't last, it's too ugly!" oh god, was I wrong D:
@Adornadev: Don't feed the troll. They'll get dependant on you and you'll have to call an exterminator. It'd be very messy!
Also, in relation to the WoW thing. As I explained to enkidoh, it's a personal repulsion haha :) I simply can't stand the style that game has, never could understand why so many people run screaming towards it, I'm running in the other direction.
However, each to their own :)
I just wasn't sure if such a bright colour scheme would end up getting carried over into release or not. Lack of knowledge to the gaming industry, ect.
I wonder if they were temps/pretextures. Like... "Sample this tiny piece of cheese. If you like it, please buy a wheel! :D"
In terms of 2.0, I am so buying the metaphorical cheese!! (Regardless of the colour scheme). It's like gamers stockholm syndrome...that or immense respect for the company. Can't decide which.
does Square-Enix know how to make money at all? They must be allergic to it.
And yes, I can barely contain my excitement for ARR either - I was managing to keep my anticipation in check by playing 1.0, but sadly that's no longer possible now. :( Ah well, only a few weeks more to go to the Beta anyway *starts counting down the days* ;)
I just find WoW to have the most repulsive gfx out there (Even before it became dated). Everquest I found tolerable, but they were essentially diferent designs. I think of Aventure Time when I see WoW (I really don't like A.T either)
When I don't like something, it's 90% because it's visually hideous, in my opinion.
For example, I took a LOOOOT of force to play one of the Dragon Quest games because I can't stand the character art, it felt like I was pouring sand into my eyes, despite the games story actually being REALLY enjoyable!
:') Overall, I'm just super bias about how pretty something is or can be, but try to remain unbias as much as possible as long as it has a decent story and other yummy elements, like music and side quests lol (Not sure side quests could be called elements or not, but I couldn't think of a better word! Sorry!)
:D I'm patient. I'm just making sure I don't end up with high hopes of playing only to have my schedule dump all over me and leave me a twitching mess under a mountain of books and deadlines :S It's going to happen anyway, But it's still nice to know.
Though mid Feb is actually great to know, so thank you ^u^
I just couldn't remember what the milestones pdf said and ran out of battery on my phone so couldn't whip it up in adobe reader at the time.
I didn't think anything could get prettier than 1.0 at the moment, except for a proper cinematic.
Oooo! Happy thought~ I look forward to the day we end up playing games that look like cinematics x') That would be mind blowing.
As for the new graphics engine, I can't say anything in regards to the Alpha version as you know, but what SE has stated and shown in screenshots/videos shows that the environments will be greatly impvoed over their 1.0 counterparts.
P.S. no offence, but whenever I hear someone say 'uggh, this just looks like Wow!', I want to cringe. WoW was essentially an Everquest clone, and EQ was an Ultima-clone. Most games copy and reuse certain elements and ideas from earlier titles (and let's face it, all console/PC RPGs including the FF series copy ideas that had their origin with Dungeons and Dragons, just with a fancy GUI and graphics. It's all a matter of perspective ;)).
Was anywhere stated when beta would begin? I can't remember if it was in the milestones or not :S
I look forward to seeing the new engine and gfx though. From screen shots of alpha it looks really WoW though :( makes me cringe. Hopefully that's not the case for release. If I'm not mistaken, textures arn't finalized during alpha?
I'm not in the games department, so I'm not sure how they work. In our department though, there are many different levels of completion. I would assume that alpha is almost like a screen test before it goes off to the editors to have all the fancy effects applied.
It's really cool that you got to alpha it! I didn't want to, too much irl work going on at uni, heck even right now our deadline is the 5th and the team is actually a little bit behind Q_Q; I hope everything quietens down in time for beta.
@AmethystSword- If the servers arn't under custody like Tanthalas worries, I'd obviously go to one that is. However, like Enkidoh said, they are likely going to end up at the key offices rather than the subsidaries. So think more on it lately, I think I will deffinitely go with the EU server as it's a lot more sensible. It's sad I won't get to see the others anymore with my main. However, nothings stopping me from making an alt on their server I assume :)
It's going to be strange in terms of update and down times though. However, perhaps this way maintanance will happen on the EU servers while the sensible people are in bed, and not in the middle of the evening when we normally wanted to play, like it usually happened haha
However, I can see them doing remote controll from main office in JP oO; I think the people in the building where they are will simply be responsible for making sure the light has been turned off and the air conditioning is working. Though that's just speculation :P
Righto :) back to work for me!
Not that it concerns me as because I live in Australia the normal Japanese servers would be the closest to me anyway. ;)
@ Xaiphan: sadly, I think all the evidence points to Lou persishing to Megaflare in the final moments of the trailer - I think there's going to have be a memorial service for him at the spot he used to stand at Apkulla Falls in Gridania once ARR launches. :(
As for the cross-server-dungeon thing, I read they're working on a kind of search function for dungeon raids that works cross-server, but I don't know what the benifit of that would be, unless they're indeed allowing instanced dungeons to indeed be cross-server. I haven't heard anything in detail in regards to that though.
Finally, as for jumping, heh. Sadly I can't say anything about it though on account of the Alpha NDA. :(
I also think that old v1.0 characters will all start on JP servers (though there was a server that SE wanted to concentrate European players on, so that one may be moved to Europe) and then be allowed to transfer to one of the local servers intended for older players.
I think I'd prefer to play on an European server, but I am worried that problems on the non-JP servers might take longer to resolve since I believe that the servers outside Japan are being outsourced to other companies.
I wonder what became of that regional server rumour. I mean yes, it would be really nice to play with other people in my own time zone! However, I think I would miss my friends (Though I rarely got to see them because of the time zone difference). So perhaps an English EU server would be fun to play on, I'd at least not have to be up at 5am for LS missions :S
Wasn't there mention somewhere that people doing the same dungeon on a different server would be able to do that dungeon with you? Or was that just another rumour?
Mine started off as Besaid but ended up as Balmung, though apparently from what I saw there weren't many people from Besaid there at all, which was odd, in my opinion.
I heard that too! That transfers were getting some sort of little bit extra, like we were starting off in the remains or Mordor or something. It's really quite exciting! :D Can't wait to see what'll happen.
And the first thing I will most definitely be doing upon log in. JUMP! haha :D
When the final server maintenence was done my miqo'te was last logged out in the Gridania Airship Dock, so she should be ok (I've heard unconfirmed reports that transferring characters will all be starting out in a special zone in ARR seperate from new players, but I have no idea if that's true or not).
OR I might have logged her out in Uldah's in. Once again, the place got ransacked D: Heck Behumut spat all that sparkly stuff all over the city!! Q_Q I felt nothing but dread from seeing that.
Haha It'll consume most of the time I should be working, I am sure!
But that's fine :3 who needs sleep anyway? lol
Though hopefully I can get my act together before it become a bad habbit, or just bad for my health or degree x') I'm usually very good at keeping it together. But saying that, I normally don't have crafting withdrawals Q_Q Want my crafting baaack!
What server you on? ^^ I'm on balmung (I think...been so long I forgotten the name of the server! O_O)
This is going to consume my life for a fair few weeks.
(Can't wait for the Beta :D).
Hey guys so like how's getting PC or PS3 version # ?
Please help as soon as possible, if I need to ask elsewhere, I'd like to be directd there. Thank you.
And on a different note, more of a request.
THe IOS version of Theathryhtm: Final Fantasy has DLC songs which the 3DS version does not have and one of those is one I would really like to have. The one of FF X-2. I am kind of dissapointed that I actually bought the whole game and cannot get that song. Its not to major, but I would like to request if they could put that song up for DLC for the 3DS as well. Otherwise I feel kind of screwed by not being able to play all songs they release, because I bought it uphand for the 3DS.
If that could be done, I would greatly appreciate it, of course I understand somethign like that is not done by the request of one person, but I'd like for this to at least reach SE.
And I dont even know what an IOS is, so obviously, I do not have it.
