Final Fantasy VII music – now updated!

 45

For all of those people who contacted us about the background music quality in the PC release of Final Fantasy VII, I’m really pleased to be able to tell you that we’ve now released an update for the game that includes an audio upgrade.

Whether you purchased the game direct from the Square Enix Store or via Steam, it will auto-update the next time you play.

Thanks for the feedback, and also your patience – and we hope that you’ll enjoy the music fully from now on!

There needs to be a remake of this! With higher quality graphics and all!
Thank you so much for updating it with the PS1 music :), I had to painfully play through this last summer with the terrible PC music :(. Always will love this game even well over a decade later I love it. Could you please sort out the Final Fantasy 8 music soon please >_<? I refuse to buy it until you sort it out and update it with the PS1 music. I have the original copy in the house but I want to play it on my laptop cuz of the achievements ^_^ and HD picture (apart from the dodgy map lol)
Oh, and it's absolutely *hilarious* how quickly people suddenly went "But I like the music how it was, change it back from this!"

It was *proven* that certain tones and instruments were completely removed with the audio quality downgrade. Anyone saying the re-release music as it was was *better* than the old PlayStation OST? Your hearing is off. The music in PC version for SE Store/Steam were MIDIs, not a "remaster" in the slightest. This *fixed* it.
@illSlayer;

I don't know what gave you the impression that the "PS3 FFVII" trailer was a "reveal", but no. No that's entirely false. That was a *tech demo* of the PS3. That is all.
Thanks.
oh my what happened to that stupid bad background.. I cant believe it!!!
I didn't play this game for a while, and removed it from my computer to make space for other games, but upon reinstalling it, it turns out that all of the music has been directly downgraded except for the battle theme. Please make an option so that people who prefer the PC music can listen to it again.
Is something wrong with FF7? i keep getting problems trying to open the game via Steam..
1st it was this morning, then now its Error 9000?
I can't even run FF7 without steam screwing me up and it says my account or Email Account isn't registred I sign into SE and the same Info come up everytime I log into FF7 I need help.
good :)
Love it! A big thank you to you guys for actually listening to your fans for once.
NERDGASAM!!!!!!!! oh yes it is like im 12 again but with a beard . oh and btw square,,,,,,,,,,,,,,QUIT RUINING MY CHILD HOOD FAVES BY COMING OUT WITH SPINOFFS!!! if a chrono trigger spinoff comes out i may riot
I stopped caring about Final Fantasy a long time ago. Where's Dragon Quest?
Ok so I may b new to posting on here but am I the only FF fan on here that is sadend. I currently own the majority of FF titles new and old but were are the old titles and spin offs on current stores. I own a ps3 there is a section for FF but they're are no good spin offs or games. I know x and x2 r being remastered but like other gamers I like the old graphics and soundtracks. Dierge of Cerberus and advent children and the likes are sorely missed in this section. If anyone from square Enix watches or posts on here an answer to this or even another fans answer that is reasonable would be appreciated.
Okay, so my problem is when I launch the game it asks for a nickname. Any name I enter is taken. Even just a random combo of letters and numbers seems to be taken. Any suggestions?
Please make it so that you can choose the OST or the remastered version; similar to the way we can choose the original graphics or new graphics.
Waiting for the remake in HD like the ps3 reveal trailer of ff7. Don't take away all of our hopes and dreams for that experience. Love the current release. The game is much improved compared to the older version. My models are capable of using the aliasing settings and high quality. Though as pointed out, background is widely pixelated. No matter, keep up the good work and my next purchase will be ff7 HD remake ^_^
(seriously you nitpickers... cleaning up the background resolution would require megabucks in re-artistry and some basic recoding/recompiling to fix all of them ;o. )
I can't blame you for the backgrounds. I imagine if you haven't got controller support it's not a problem on your end - more a negotiating issue with the manufactureer of the controller itself. Besides that I *am* glad this was finally released legitly for pc. Also I don't think the update worked for me... albeit maybe I just recalled the game with a more then rosy lens in mind -shrugs-.

Good Job on at least trying though =].
I actually liked the PC music, but still a good update. I second one of the comments below, how about cleaning up the backgorund resolution?
What about if you purchased the original CD's of the FF VII game when it first came out in 2002???
Can't see this update anywhere. My Steam can't seem to find the update and the update was not installed before.
Now can we please get an option to change the music quality back to what it originally was? I personally liked the music. I thought the soundtrack had been updated and, while it was a shocker at first, I grew to enjoy the music.
Love you Square-Enix :*
Thank you so much for this update! One of my big complaints about the PC version (I'm playing the Square Enix store version) was the music. It just did not sound the way the PS1 version did, the way I remember. And it soiled it a bit.

I've been playing through it currently, so really happy to see it updated! Please, please do another update, and fix the Controller Support so that the buttons detect an Xbox 360 controller and fix the text accordingly to match the buttons being used. So instead of "PageDown" it will say "Right Bumper", Instead of "Switch" it will say "X Button". I hear this makes minigames much harder to play on this PC version. There is a mod already that fixes it here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/39140/

Maybe you guys could officially sanction it and simply modify the work these guys have already done to clean it up and make it work correctly? I haven't downloaded it myself cause I don't have the Steam version and I'm weary of mods cause of the horror stories I've heard of them breaking games (never used one matter of fact). But it gives me pause knowing that I'll have mini-games down the road (I already failed my first one, the gym squats minigame, cause I didn't know the button configuration mapped to my controller) and I'll have to use that little diagram from the Steam forums thread to get through them. I shouldn't have to do that.

Anyway I greatly appreciate the update! But please keep it up to make this version even better. I'm positive it will increase sales. I generally do not even buy Steam games unless they have controller support, so knowing this stuff is fixed will go a long way toward satisfying your customers. :)
Ok, that is good, now if you can filter those 2D Backgrounds to not have those GIGANTIC pixels, that would be great.
Shut up and take my money! XD I'm playing this masterpiece again, right now!
This is epic!!!
All that is left for square-enix to do is to update the framerate to smooth
when the slot reel is running during tifa limit break and cait sith limit break and in battle square.
Fix the text when u select limit from the menu screen. (the numbers are overlaping the text limit break.)
then we will have a perfect upgrade port.
This is brilliant news - thank you! Now I have another excuse to play FFVII yet again... :)
...And a special thank you to Phil Elliott for presenting the concerns of fans to Square Enix that ultimately made this possible. Thanks for your care and professionalism Phil!
Athelstone - you did the hard work here! Thanks for the feedback and the patience.
Congratulations to everyone who signed the petition here and on the Steam forums, and a BIG THANK YOU to Square Enix on behalf of all FF7 fans for listening! It's wonderful that the full potential of a genre defining classic can now be enjoyed by gamers for many more years to come.

great newsss !!!!!
Just done the update, worked perfectly. Fantastic! Thanks Square Enix!
@DarkTiamatZERO I'm so sick of people who think they can seem interesting by complaining about Final Fantasy. Nobody's fooled. Go away.
@DarkTiamatZERO Considering you're here commenting about this, you obviously do care. now run along and ***** and whine about something else little boy
Lol, wow!
It only took you guys 15 years to finally pull that one off. Little slow there. Now how about you properly up-scale the backgrounds? Or do I have to wait until I have grandchildren before I see this game working properly.

On the other hand, I've already beaten the original PSN version a dozen times and its been working perfectly for the past 16 years. Why should I care about this fail port again?
Awesome! Now make the same for VIII :D
That is wonderful news, Phil. Thank you! I really appreciate the work that you guys did to push this through and the game is much better for it.
MUST HAVE, FF8 Remake!!!
OK, just ran it and it's just like the PS1 version but clearer.
Quite admirable that you guys addressed this issue even after most players already used the Anxious Heart patch.
But why can't previous customers from the NA store get the Extended Download Service?
Great news! it's awesome to know that square listen to our feedback \o/ steam workshop, please consider this square, steam workshop!
Now, only wait for the remade version of FF 8, the best game of all the times :)
Best news since this game was remade for PC :)
