FINAL FANTASY VII Returns to PC

Fan favourite FINAL FANTASY VII will be returning to PCs as a digital download exclusively on the  Square Enix Store. As Square Enix's most highly regarded game FINAL FANTASY VII has been optimized for a wide range of hardware ensuring that you can play it with ease on the latest modern PCs.

 

 

In addition FINAL FANTASY VII now introduces a host of brand new online features never seen before.

 

  • Achievements - Not only can you prove yourself to be an ultimate fan by unlocking 36 challenging achievements, but you can also share your online profile with friends to see who's the best.
  • Character Booster - This feature gives players who are new to the game, inexperienced or stuck the ability to boost their HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the story.
  • Cloud Saves - Whether you're at home, round a friend's house or halfway around the globe, now you can save and continue your game progress wherever you are, all you need is an internet connection.

SE Members can now head over to the official Square Enix game page to add it to their newsboards and join in the community discussion on the comments. You can also download wallpapers and read-up on your favourite characters bio over at www.finalfantasyviipc.com.

Anyone else missing the "Switch" feature in the menu? I cant remove materia from the other party members OR switch party members for that matter. Anyone else run into the same problem OR have a fix?

well, maybe if the support new what does this word mean we wouldn't be writing here, would we? it been since January and the support didnt resolve my download issue on 2 different PCs and they dont even grant me refund although one of them said so but the next agent in line after my reply changed his mind. how is this even possible from a company as big as this but maybe it isn't as big as i though it is. if you dont believe me them maybe i can give you my 4 months old case number

i dunno bout u guys but i feel as if the download manager is faulty i download the game but the launcher keeps bombing out with error code dll missing :(

p.s, they would of had to repaint EVERY SINGLE 2D FIELD to achieve anything more, Im glad they didnt because of the temptation to change things, I love it the way it is :)

I dont think Square rushed anything, how did they need to improve on their best title to date? Other than making it more stable on the PC, which is exactly what this release is all about :)

CUT SCENES look much better and the battles do too, consol version will always have better 2D fields on this game because it was designed to be played on Television sets, not High Resolution Pc Monitors :) its max resolution is 640x480 (when it comes to 2D fields) play it in windowed mode or get the mods if you want it looking better :)

@Enkidoh: Gosh tell me about it! I wouldn't spend that much money on a game! A book? Probably, but definitely not a game when it's easy to come by as second hand or digital download.
However, I know a lot of collectors would pay that price to get the game band new, still in the wrapper, ect. Just for the collectors value of it.
Maybe they may just want to sniff the manuel for its original ink.
I didn't intend anything bad by posting about it, just that it's there (over priced to **** and back) so it's an option someone in the world would probably dive at. I don't know about brand new for other options other than DL.

Though to be fair, I was already on ebay staring at a £180 book, so it wasn't much hassel to type in "FFVII sealed" ^^; Maybe even Amazon could have better options?

@Xai: I hate to say it, but that's an absolute ripoff Xai - I found a brand new copy of the Playstation 'Platinum' version (with FFVIII trailer disc and all), at a pawnbrokers a few years ago, for just $10 AU! That was something of a fluke though, as I haven't seen a copy for sale anywhere else since. In any event, eBay sellers tend to be very opportunistic and greedy, and tend to greatly overvalue items which just aren't worth that money. That doesn't mean you shouldn't buy games from eBay, just be wise when bidding, as an item is only worth as much as what you are prepared to pay for it. ;) @Elden: if you have a PS3 or PSP/PS Vita, just buy and download the game from the Playsation Network - the PS1 version has been available on the PSN for a while now and is very cheap too (last I saw it was only $15 AU) - it also runs exceptionally well too, unlike the problems associated with the PC version rerelease. ;)

Instruction how to find a Serial Key and Download button:
1. log in to your web account (eu.square-enix.com).
2. Click on STORE button.
3. Click on MY ACCOUNT button betwen word "HELP" and "BASKET".
That is all. You now see your precious game and Serial Key and Download Button :)

Got my copy of this much loved game last week, and loving it so far.

I must have a bit of a moan though. It seems Square Enix have just added achievements, polished the characters up and that's about it.

These more polished characters look brilliant, but, the pre-rendered backgrounds on which Cloud et al run about in don't. They're still in their original form, and this for me spoils the experience somewhat.

If you search on Google for Final Fantasy VII HD Remaster, you can 'see' what can be achieved when you put in some time, thought, and hard work. It seems that Square haven't, and have just rushed out this title to generate more income.

I hope that subsequent updates to this much loved title will show us that Square Enix actually do care about it's users and players of this game, and polish up the quite blocky ( I'm playing on 1280 x 1024 resolution - Lord knows what it's like over and above that! ) pre-renders.

Still, this game is still one of the best in the series, and still highly playable.

I wonder of Square Enix will be re-releasing Final Fantasy VIII? I have a soft fpot for this title too.

has anyone else had the problem of pressing play on the main menu screen, (play, achievements, settings, online profile and credits menu) and then instead of playing the game, the menu vanishs for an instant and then pops back up, with no change really. i have tried all the other menu options, they all work except the one i actually want. i have working internet connection and have registered without a problem

I cannot for the life of my see why Final Fantasy isn't syncing :( I had to reinstall my pc's software, thus deleting the local gamesaves, I have reinstalled Final Fantasy but i doesn't sync... Is there anyway that Square Enix can send me my game saves? I can't seem to find an e-mail to ask them directly :'( Please help! My e-mail is Chris200692@gmail.com

I bought this PC release when it came out, played to almost Disk 3. And when I recently logged in I was required to enter my Birthday, Country and click two Terms of Service box's. Once I got logged in my saves were gone as well as my achievements. Anyway I can get them back, or did SE screw me over? =/

I seem to be running into a recurrent issue with save files. After syncing with cloud, and saving, I go to log back on, and some of my progress appears to be lost. Luckily, while playing, I go to save, and then magically the save file with the most progress appears again, so I have to log out, and log back in. Any idea what is causing this issue?

The issue with the cloud saves seems to be that they are unavailable whilst square is updating the game. This wouldn't be so bad but you also cannot save your game whilst playing if you don't have the latest update. You have to restart the program to check for and install the update, thus eliminating all of your progress. Any way to make it possible to check for and install updates from within the game? Also, can you tweak the program so that it can look for cloud saves multiple times? If your saves are temporarily unavailable then you can't save in-game and the game will not check again if it has failed to locate them once. Also, I heard that you can enable local saves by disabling your internet connection but it seems like you should be able to do this without going through the hassle of disabling your wifi.

I wish I had realized this game was out on PC again earlier. Today, I played for nearly five hours straight, and made my way out of Midgar. Tomorrow, Chocobo Ranch!

i remember when i first played this game in 1997 it was awesome then its awesome now still own my original playstation copy i explined to my mate that his guide book was **** and gave him a copy of the one i had made lol they could've made the achievements on this version much harder though can't wait to start playing it non stop XD if anyone wants to know how i'm doing on the game just ask. haven't found a problem with it since i downloaded it added the advent children patch as well just to play as the advent children version of the characters well have fun all

Do you need to be logged IN as the member 100% of the time to get an 100% save?

Sometimes I can`t save, but when I logg into my acount, in just a few moments it works agian.

Is it intended to be like this?

I can't exchange materia between toons (that are not in party, and can't switch between characters to make party). I already e-mailed, looked on the internet etc, tried all buttons (in-game it is said to use the "SWITCH" command, supposedly assigned to "insert" but no button - I tried all... - seems to work.) please, any help would be much appreciated :)

@blackOperantionz when you bought the game you will have received a confirmation email for your purchase, in that email is a link to download the game, just enter your activation code in again once youve installed the game, I think you can install the game using your activation code on 3 computers before you have to buy it again.

i am having trouble installing the game, it will download using the installer then when it comes to the point where it uses 7zip to extract the files it always says that the first file is corrupted, has anyone else had any problems with this? does anyone know how to counter this problem?

I'm having trouble with the game save syncing too - It just seems to be working when it wants. (Even when first loading the game, sometimes I don't even get the option to 'Continue' because it can't sync my saves.

As suggested earlier, instead of automatically syncing, allow local saves then sync content after gameplay. There is no point in playing the game if you eventually reach a save point and you lose all progress over something as trivial as access to the online server.

It was a good idea, but you need to make it failsafe or there was no point in buying this game in the first place.
