Gamer Chat: The Best of E3

So E3 is finally over and as always there were plenty of great things to see. This year Square Enix had a revamped booth with a huge stage and our best and biggest games on display. There was Hitman: Absolution, Sleeping Dogs, Quantum Conundrum, Gameglobe, KINGDOM HEARTS 3D, THEATHRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY, Heroes of Ruin and plenty of our mobile games too. Of course there were a number of things we were also showing behind "closed doors" such as Tomb Raider, which you will hear more about in the next few days from the press.

While every game could claim to be the star of the show for us, it was really our Luminous Studio tech demo that blew people away. For us it was a great opportunity to show off the next-gen technology that we've been working so hard on. If you wanted an idea of what future FINAL FANTASY games might look out we highly recommend you watch the video.

So have you watched all the trailers (check our E3 2012 playlist) and seen all the interviews?

In this week's gamer chat we want to hear what you thought of the games and technology at E3? What was your highlight and what do you want to see more of in the future?

Comments

Hmm.. I am a RPG, a little stealth and action adventure gamer (with loads of brawling or hack and slash).. This year, except The Last of Us, MGS:Rising, Ni no Kuni, RE6, and Hitman there is nothing that interest me... I am tired of shooting games... Anyhow, that is only my personal preference..

But I am really impressed by the technology SE showed us.. The luminous studio. You guys wowed me, never would I have thought that we would one day see such lush graphic and its not pre-rendered. And I like how the plot goes.. That mystical Final Fantasy feel is somewhat back... Just that, it would be best if the heroin is portrayed as a stronger female.. She remind of me of Aya in 3rd Birthday.. I like the game mechanics yet I definitely am not into her personality though.. Too unbelievably weak.. So to speak.. I mean, in such dire situation ladies will buff up their emotional defence as well.. To be honest, i cant relate to her that much, hence it sort of felt flat at that part... What I would really like to see is a real heroin.. Someone warm, caring and is a team builder instead of those cold character we'd always see in most movies or games.. As for the other characters in the team, I would also like to see more human like personalities in them..

Still, I am waiting for FFX remake and FFVersus.. For the love of Etro.. We have all been waiting for the game for so so so long.. Nonetheless I would like to say thank you for the hard work!
Square enix was quite embarrassing at E3/

most of the games were shovelware honestly...........

There is a reason why square is mocked repeatedly
MY god you can say butt but not butt kissy kissy lol :D
* ok you can't say butt now intreating stupid filter.
I'm sorry if my commets upset some people but the facts remains if you think i'm assulting how i didn't swear but 1 think I'm sick off is the *********** on here & single out a commet is just sad.

people take commets out of context i take that commet as aim at me I'm i the only 1 here not happen with SE atm & in the past people should do research, read my past commets & others you will see there are others like me.

go to gamefaqs there are more even SCEE official EU-blog week after week after week same where SE imports with wheres sypro etc.

if people have & do have muti PSN accounts like i do see how many SE games on EU psn store to how many SE games on SCEA store people will see more SE games then EU.

i did say we waits for gamescom not holding my breath there because it's SCEE show i know MS is not going there that I am surprise i thought they be there My god MS why not run out of ideas.

SE still silent are you going to gamescom SE or wait till TGS?

i still thing ff14-V 2.0 should be shown open E3.
I was not for one moment suggesting that everyone should praise or not comment - only that insults and complaints are not necessary.

However, If you would look at the title of this article you would see it clearly refers to E3 and I merely commented on the insults against Square Enix for making western styled games -

I admit - I love all of the Final Fantasy games - including X-2, XII and XIII as they are all brilliant in their own way - as I can understand why (in your opinion) you believe some games are not so great...

Re-releases and spin offs are good (in my opinion) as they expand and enchance the already great stories by adding new characters, re-written text or improved graphics which is never a bad thing

The purpose of this site is to (as we are currently doing) comment on the subjects raised and either agree or disagree... at no point do I believe we should insult people or companies -

As for the 25th Anniversary - that is technically 18/12/2012 so there is still time for an announcement - although Theatrhythm and Dimensions are already looking excellent as a start (also - some anniversaries go by with less from their respective creators)..

Therefore - I am not suggesting that everyone can only be nice... by all means, analyse and suggest what you would like to see in future (as was suggested by the subject of the article)... there is just no need to be rude about it.
I want also to point out to everyone that blind praise will not help SE get better. For instance take the wrong message fans delivered after FFX that led SE to make the same mistakes with FFXIII...

I'm sure SE is aware of our love for their japanese franchises---KH, FF, DQ---and I do love KH:BBS; however, it is a fact that since KH2 no other KH game was release on the main consoles. It's SE itself that labelled many of the handheld games as spin-offs and is now trying to convince us that KH:3D is a worthy sequel to KH2. To me the proper sequel to KH2 is KH3, but that is just me...

As with FF, I too look for anything FF related. But how many different re-releases/copies of the same 15 year old game can a consumer buy before it gets repetitive... To me, SE is exhausting the FF brand and dealing very poorly with its 25th anniversary. FF deserved better than a port and a rhythm game for handheld devices. Show us some true love.

If we are advised to not analyse SE current actions and simply stick to nice comments, then I'm sorry if I misunderstood the purpose of this site.
Can I just point out to everyone that the moaning and insults will not help your case.

Square Enix are aware that we love Final Fantasy and have been releasing games to satisfy that love for MANY years and will continue to do so for many to come.

Stop complaining about the games you don't like... or don't believe should be released like the KH portables or the re-release of the original games - I am 100% positive that Square Enix would stop making them if people stopped buying them - Personally I like having copies on all of my consoles as it gives me a massive choice.

I for one am looking forward to any and all titles with slight links to Final Fantasy as I have been a fan for the past 15 yesrs at least - FF7 was my first experience and is still my Favourite!!

If you want to see what the (Japanese) 1st Production Department are up to - just wait for TGS - E3 was mainly about the western games as it was held... in the West... where gamers are after those types of games...

I admit that a release of Type 0 in the west is joint top of my wish list alongside the ever present FF7 remake but I am happy to wait... Still got games to play this yesr that have been announced and will be released next month.

If you can't be nice (i.e. Calling Square Enix a joke) then don't comment... I assure you that it just clogs up the comments board between all of the rave reviews or genuine suggestions for next year and nobody is impressed... or you can ignore this as I expect you will and continue with the complaints...
Well done Square Enix on another excellent year of E3 (and of course the 25 years of Final Fantasy!) The line up you showed was very impressive to say the least (Agni's Philosophy was immense!!!)

I look forward to seeing what happens at Gamescom and TGS.
* just to make my point i welcome back TR & hitman, & i welcome the Hitman HD collection, now lets have a look at the recycle games SE shown at E3 you tell me has SE show some Ps3 love of any RPG.

here the list:

-KH 3D dream drop: 3DS

-FFD: ios

-sleeping dogs; Ps3 [westen action]

Tomb raider: muti-platform [westen action]

new Hitman: muti-platform [westen stealth killing action]

FF14-V 2.0: Ps3 [behind close door announce]

so only 1 RPG it not even new & the fact it was behind close door was a mistake at least if it was shown at E3 it wouldn't be a poor E3 from SE but that your fault is'nt it.

so we wait for gamescom in august.
"In this week's gamer chat we want to hear what you thought of the games and technology at E3? What was your highlight and what do you want to see more of in the future?"

i would like to See less westen RPG's More on FF series FFv13 FF7-2 even if it a rumour for all SE you still haven't denied or admit it out there & the FF13-3 we know it's comming because again you SE haven't denied or admit it.

plus a true KH-3 i'm getting quite sick of You SE putting popular titles on handhelds how many did ninty had of KH 2, how many KH on psp 1, 0 KH on next gen NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

last i want to see for the future is Your SE backlog of imports Ps1 & Ps2 classics since EU has them but most of them are shovelware tripe you SE release dues EX, just cause out of 6 i know of 2 of them but all westen style games again no true RPG ps2 KH 1 & 2 as ps2 classics from you.

you SE & SCEE says you listen to fanbase do you really?

so far i see that you don't.
First, kudos for the Eidos games. Tomb raider looked amazing. Thank you very much for bringing back Hitman. I really loved the original and this new installment looks amazing.

Now for the sad part... Apart from the Agni's demo, E3 2012 is another sad E3 for any true SE supporter and for any RPG fan, in general.

In the last few years it seems to me that SE is trying to fade into oblivion. Long gone are the times when core SE---the RPG SE we all remember to love---had something to show at E3 and had a spotlight at Sony's press conference. Sometimes I think SE forgot their loyal fans, those who supported SE for their japanese RPGs and not for their new found love on western 3rd person action, adventure, not made in Japan games.

If we add the fact that a generation as come and gone without a proper KH, DQ game on a main console we see that SE has given up. To me that is 8 years of handheld excuses because high def games are too hard to put together. Heck, look at FF: 1 (disappointing) game this generation but 300 remakes and rehashes. What it is the more ridiculous is that to commemorate the 25th anniversary of SE's (old) flagship franchise SE releases a port of a remake and a rhythm game...

I know for a fact that no one with real decision power @SE reads any of these posts but I have the moral obligation to speak my mind. If you guys don't take into consideration what your fans have to say at your own site, that is your problem, not mine...

what so special about that does it make the characters look really human like nope it still look like the Ps3 can handle that engine.

the new fox engine kojima working on is that for next gen no it for Ps3 & 360.

i think ppl are jumping the gun i hope this new engine the new FF when the other FF are not out yet FFv13, FF13-3 & the rumour FF7-2 & still SE hasn't said admit or denied it happening.

i tell you this I will be very very SHOCKED if FF13-3 is a next gen then i may have to rethink about what i said >_>
I get the feeling that this new engine won't be fully ready for at least a good few years yet. It does look good, however the Crystal Tools engine will take some doing to be surpassed. Some more FF info from Square Enix would be great too, as not heard anything apart from an interview in Japan last month.
the new Luminous studio... please make Agni's Philosophy the Next Final Fantasy game!!! :)
the highlights for me is at E3 that you SE recycle your games at E3 Big F-ing WHOOP you could have gain ground with big hitters like FFv13, FF7-2 or say outright There is no FF7-2 in the works.

some-_one been pulling our leg, besides i hope Agnis Philosophy is not the new FF can you imagine if FFv13 on Next gen & not Ps3 shock horror.

the day a FF hits next gen that be the day i quit gaming.

what im reading is not good Ps4 uses DMR not backward with Ps3 games & it be dear like the Ps3 was.
Agnis Philosophy as the next Final Fantasy please!!!
Highlight: Agnis's Philosophy

See more of: Next gen stuff and future Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts III. Im sure these will all be the next big things.

I agree with @TheTux94 I was very impressed with Agnis's Philosophy. But I desperately want to see Versus XIII. Perhaps TGS? Can you tell if Square will have a strong presence at this years TGS?
Luminousssss. Agni's Philosophy was wonderful.
I loved the coverage, especially the inverviews. One issue though which I am certain others will agree with... Where was all the Final Fantasy?

Don't get me wrong - I am loving the new IP's you are promoting.. Getting Heroes of Ruin soon and cannot wait for Tomb Raider to land but I am a HUGE fan of the whole Final Fantasy series (got ALL of the games released in UK/NA including games with links to FF (such as the KH games, PE 1 2 3, TWEWY and Crystal Chronicles....

For future E3 posts, we could suggest questions to certain figureheads at the conference as the basis of any interviews?

For future posts to the Square Enix blog - I would have to say LOTS more final fantasy coverage - even retrospectives or reviews of old games / polls for fave characters etc. to keep the series alive for us

Will be getting Theatrhythm on release, KH 3D on release, Final Fantasy Dimensions on release, FF3 PSP if released in UK (even though I have the DS and IOS copy already).

Can anyone confirm if/when Final Fantasy Type 0 will be coming to the UK/NA as it looks awesome and would suck if we don't get it..

Thanks
I liked the tech demo.

I would have liked to see some Final Fantasy Trailer.

@Ben Bateman: Still nothing about FF Versus XIII?
Still nothing at this stage, sorry :( I wish I could bring you more news, but I just can't.
square enix was one of the best developer and publisher, but are not as strong as they was miss some of the rpgsthat they did
Thanks for the support. We plan to put more time and resourced behind event coverage in the future. FFXIV was behind closed doors but we didn't have time to cover it. We'll make up for it.
Gameglobe, FFXIV 2.0, Theatrhythm and FF Dimensions were my favourite parts of this year's E3. I'm quite impressed by the wide variety. There's stuff from all genres to look forward too. Gameglobe may replace stumbleupon for me, and XIV seems to be the most promising turn around I've ever seen. FFD didn't get as much attention as I wanted though, probably a result of people simply not visiting E3 to see iOS games.
Thanks. Yeah it was a one-man army when it came to covering E3 (me) so I didn't get to cover mobile as much as I wanted. But we're looking to put more resources behind event coverage in the future and I'm going to try and do some post-e3 coverage to make up for it (no promises though!)
