Gamer Chat: The Square Enix Store

Not so long ago we took a brief look at some of the fun and exciting changes that we were planning to bring to the new Square Enix Europe website. We've still got plenty of ideas (many of which came straight from you guys) that we plan to implement all in good time.

Today we're pleased to announce that we've reached one of our more important milestones, the introduction of the online store for Europe. It's of course in its infancy but this is a big step in way of things to come. We'd really appreciate if you take your time to look around, tell us your thoughts.

Does it look okay? Is it easy to find information and products? Are there bugs? What is it missing?

Any of your feedback will be appreciated and will go straight back to the team.

Hi, I'm in France and can't add anything to my basket, it says the store is for serviced countries only... Well, France is listed in the Terms Of Use ! What is going on ? Actual message : "Our products and services displayed on the Store are not available for purchase by individuals outside of the Serviced Countries. Our system indicates that you are outside of the Serviced Countries for this Site." Any solution ?
Don't mean to be annoying but where are all the Enix and Taito games? Re-releasing the Soul Blazer, Lufia, Seiken Densetsu and pretty much any other SNES series as HD remakes/compilation sets/PSN, Xbox Live or Steam games would make a butt tonne of money. (especially as the latter released seperately with achievements)

Also please refer this letter from Kotaku and all the comments there in to the big boys. This is what fans want. http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/06/open-letter-to-the-creators-of-final-fantasy/#comment-756806

<3 you guys!
Why isn't Australia and New Zealand supported when we are apparently in your "Serviced Country" list?
I am getting the;
"Our products and services displayed on the Store are not available for purchase by individuals outside of the Serviced Countries. Our system indicates that you are outside of the Serviced Countries for this Site." message.

Only problem is I am in New Zealand... which is listed in the Serviced Countries list....

Any idea why I can't buy it?
so how do you download dlc for game if you buy the game from here? you download from steam or is it here?
"I think it would be good if maybe you looked into releasing FFVII and FFVIII as a digital download for PC on the store too (if the original runs on Windows XP/Vista/7 properly)! Great job"

how about FF7 PC only with achievements + cloud saves + bonus costum configuration i'm sure it pop up sometime on SEE online digital store.

frankly i'm not impress because anything that SE does always dissed off it's fanbase.

because pc can do cloud saves via steam, achievements can be on PC too.

or is it for that eggbox 360 SE hmmm.
I have one major complain about this shop. When I try to buy something the following message pops up:

Our products and services displayed on the Store are not available for purchase by individuals outside of the Serviced Countries. Our system indicates that you are outside of the Serviced Countries for this Site.

For more details on what countries are serviced please refer to the Terms of Use.

Why Greece is outside the servised countries? In which countries you can buy? Since it's Square Enix Europe I should be able to buy something.

Please Ben can you check this out?
Very good idea this shop. Really amazing and also great prices. Could you consider doing the same thing for square enix iphone games?
I just wanted to thank you for having put in the store legacy of kain 1 & 2, in my opinion the best games eidos ever made :)
Looks good so far. The only issue I have is that the browse section on the side of the page is a little bit small, it wasn't exactly one of the first things I noticed because everything else on the page seemed to be a little bigger and more noticeable than it (but thats probably just me being picky or not paying enough attention, sorry xD).

I think it would be good if maybe you looked into releasing FFVII and FFVIII as a digital download for PC on the store too (if the original runs on Windows XP/Vista/7 properly)! Great job so far though.
well i like the part about Ps3 browesr support yes it be cool to push your titles on PSN via your online store.

as for imports i thought using your store to push your backlog of games not just imports but our New EU ps2 classics as well but i was wishful thinking. :(

the store i like it but even better if join with PSN.

looking to the day when i commet here, quick detour to the online store buy a SE ps3 game a ps2 classic etc back to commet = great stuff. ^_^
i like how it look but i was wondering if you could keep the games in like a folder if they have a series of games. i like to see some changes other/older categories. oh about the System requirements listed under the games of the store, i see minimum and recommended but not all of them have it
* but i do not see why SCEE can't do it like SCEA can then we are force to use this way, ghostlight store is only a shortcut to PSN EU store.

it have the same content on it's store & PSN store, >_>
i mean like ghostlight store useing that store via Ps3 browser it take us to part of PSN store the [buy now page]

if SCEE can't deliver your backlog of imports then you must do it yourself you never seen our update being weak then other weeks.
As I've said before Alistair, unfortunately adding backwards compatibility/imports is more complex than that, it's not as simple as flicking a switch and it's not always cost effective. I honestly can't say which games will be made backwards compatible but as always I will update you as and when information arises.

As for the PS3 browser support, it sounds interesting, I'll investigate it. Definitely something that sounds cool and worth implementing if we can. Thanks for the feedback.
I know it early days but it not PSN friendly it is not.

so another steam look alike for PC fans only.
What do you mean by PSN friendly? The first phase of the store is going to focus on digital download only. Once we're happy we the functionality we can look at scaling it up to support more.
Looks nice. I like that the download size is clearly displayed. On the pedantic side, the chart should probably be "Bestsellers" plural. Also, I'd maybe allow each game to have more than one catagory. That way something like Deus Ex could be listed under 'Action' and 'Role Playing' - might seem a bit weird if you don't have 'Role Playing' catagory (as well as making it harder to search for RPGs).
Good points, thanks!

@ben

For the future of square its critical you do straight away when you can

I know ff type zero vita was going to happen, but sony wanted new content added so it had to be cancelled. But i hope there is a way
I'd like in future to see "soundtracks" and "console games" sold on the site like you're already doing in France with Square Enix Boutique: http://www.square-enix-boutique.com/
That's certainly a goal. It'll take some time but it's something we will try to implement at a later date. Thanks for the input!
More japanese localizations, please send that to the team. And put that news on the store.
Just to make it clear, this is the online store for Europe, it will only be offering existing digital (and possibly in the future boxed products) that are available to Europe. On the production side I don't have any news regarding the localisation of the Japanese games that you've been leaving comments in other blog posts about, sorry. When I do I'll be posting about them straight away.
