Yes, you've heard all the Wii U puns and with the original Wii being almost 6 years old, you're probably sick to death of them. Still, we couldn't resist squeezing a good pun in the post title all the same. As you have already deduced, this week's Gamer Chat is all about Nintendo's next big thing, the Wii U. This exciting new console replaces the household Wii, promising better HD graphics, a new touch-screen controller, and brand new online features.
Here in the UK and most of Europe the Wii U is just days away, and while the tantalising wait is slowly killing us, we can ease the pain at least a little bit by reading the flurry of reviews and the first few impressions from our gamers across the pond in the US.
So, will you be getting a Wii U? Have you got one already and if so, what do you think? What about it are you looking forward to the most? Do you think it will have enough of the same unique qualities its predecessor had to fight off the next wave of high-spec consoles from Sony and Microsoft?
As always share your opinions with us in the comments. Feel free to discuss the topic and engage with each other’s ideas - but please be nice; there are no wrong answers.

I actually tried this console for the first time yesterday in Game and all I can say is that. I. Want. One! I only played it for about 15 minutes but the tablet was so light, the game I was playing was very interactive and I couldn't help but enjoy every minute of it! Although I was a little bit confused at first, I didn't really know which screen to look at! :D
To me it kind of feels like a giant DS with better graphics and more interactivity with the games.
Now i must wait if square makes any FF game that worth playing it on the console.
I suppose it'll be the same with the WiiU.
I'm sure the WiiU will do well regardless when the next consoles of Sony & Microsoft appear. Nintendo has shown with the Wii that you don't need high-specs to make a highly succesful console. One can argue that it didn't have many games for the hardcore gamer and you'd be right, but that's irrelevant. The Wii was a success, no one can deny that. If the WiiU continues on that path and manages to also gain back the 'hardcore' gamers they'll have a winning formula on all fronts. That last one will be the real challenge for Nintendo in this console generation, however. It'll require the backing of 3rd party & a good online structure. I'm still questioning that, but we'll see what the future brings.
Excited to see the future of the WiiU alongside the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft however, competition is always good.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
One thing I keep hearing though (and it annoys me at times) is that others won't buy it, simply because it's 'not as powerful/as good as the PS3 or Xbox 360'. Despite the fact that Nintendo always offers something unique compared to the other consoles, and that these people haven't even tried using the console yet, I keep hearing the same answer over and over again. I personally don't understand why some people are so picky about such minor things like this. I buy a console based on games and not spec, not the other way around. Isn't that generally why someone would buy a console? I just don't get it.
Sorry, didn't mean to rant but it's been bugging me for a while. But I have a feeling that based on what I just said, Nintendo probably isn't going to do that well compared to Sony and Microsoft unless they can bring in some really good, exclusive games to attract hardcore gamers.
i wouldn't put that pass you SE i read you like a open book. ninty got it sights on a exclusive FF for it.
see how many ppl reaction to that.
anyhow No i'm not getting a wii-u thinking long & hard Maybe next year.
I (really) wanna play Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon as well, and Nintendo's flagships are always high quality, so I should be getting it some day. Not interested as it is, especially seeing there's no solution for playing GameCube games.
I think the WiiU could stick around for quite a while actually.
I hope Square Enix makes some games for it, too.
I just hope that SE decides to support the console, hopefully DQX will be localized, or maybe FFXIV will get ported to Wii U. How about a FFXIII trilogy version? And that FFX HD version, instead of the laughable Vita version once announced, a Wii U version would be much better. Add to that X-2 and XII while we are at it.
