Heads-up - first look at some site changes on the way!

We just wanted to give you a heads-up with a bit of site news. We’re currently working on some updates that are going to change a few things – primarily this is around the look-and-feel of the site, as we’re moving away from the current style and towards something a bit lighter :-)

Here's a little clue:

Also, for anybody browsing on mobile or tablet devices, we’re implementing something called Responsive Design, which means that the site will adapt to the size or orientation of the screen you’re viewing on. Obviously, with the amount of time we’re all spending looking at stuff online with our mobiles and tablets, we’re pretty excited to be able to make that whole experience a lot more intuitive for you!

We’re hoping to implement the changes in the next few weeks, and we’re planning a lot more to come for the Square Enix website… but one thing at a time...

Hmm? This blog post was just about changes to this website - they didn't say anything about game expansions (I presume that's what you mean - and I'm going to take a wild guess here and say 'FFXI Seekers of Adoulin' right? In which case, no - all info I've heard is it will only be on PS2 in Japan - the rest of the world will only be getting it on PC and 360. The PS2 version of FFXI was never available officially in Europe anyway, so that's a moot point.)

Anyway, enough topic derailing from me. :3 I'm intriguied by these new changes - one thing I miss from the really old version of the site was media downloads available for each game (like wallpapers and screensavers, and I'd love it if they were brought back. Ah well, no harm if they're not coming back.
You bring up an interesting point. The French version of the website still has a Media section. I'm currently working on some ideas (not necessarily ideas that have been approved yet) for some kind of community hub which would include that kind of content.
is the new expansion coming out 4 ps2
With a bit of luck it'll work on my little old LG which the world forgot to update >_<; it's stuck on android 2.2.2 D: ahh!

Anyway :) With a bit of luck everything will be sparkley on my brick.
Not holding my breath though =_= nothing ever works on my brick anymore.
Yes I got a tablet named ipad2 the old web work well with my tablet so I bet the new update will enhance it further.

How the spoiler tag getting on as I suggested will it be in this update?
We'll be using the existing comment system, but we're still looking to fundamentally change the system. Unfortunately this will have to wait while we prioritise other features.
I quite like the website I'll be interested to see what happens!
So really, it's just the colour and text design thats changing at the moment?
Either way, the very small preview looks really nice. And I like the idea of the mobile/tablet design (sounds a bit like dA's website). I use the website on my phone so it'll be interesting to see how it'll look.
Looking forward to the update now. Thanks for the news update!
It's initially a visual change but I can assure you that our web team have been making a lot of back-end changes - things we need for the future - that aren't necessarily something you'll see.

Aside from that there will be some layout changes to the game index and the search function - both of which aren't great as they are right now.
Very interesting... Thank you for the heads-up.
Hope the redesign is better than the current layout, I liked the last website you had better, hopefully the information you keep on games etc is more up to date as well
So the game pages are having a tweak (you'll have to wait and see) but we still need to add a lot of information. That's going to be my job over the next few weeks. I've been holding off doing it because of the site update.
I really hope they doesn't change the site layout like youtube did, the new yoututbe suck.
The basic framework will be the same, you won't feel lost. We have some ideas for bigger changes in the future, but they're not ready yet.
