Welcome back for another information-dense weekly recap filled to the brim with news - although it almost nearly didn't happen. Much to the amusement of our colleagues abroad who live their hassle-free lives in a Winter Wonderland, the UK is going slightly hysterical at the arrival of snow. Trains are delayed, schools are closed, and cafés are running low on hot beverages. But that hasn't stopped us from getting into work on time this bitterly cold Monday morning (I've got no excuses, I'm within walking distance of Square Enix HQ) and from you guys having a little bit of fun.

@Rev: No worries about forgetting it or not :) If anything you want want to avoid double posting. Not sure what the TOS are on that, but it's generally not fondly looked on (though personally I don't care either way x'D)
Hmm I don't think I ever got megaflared in 13-2 :o
I'm going to have to replay that game again some time, I think more DLC's have come out since I last played, so will have to go have a look ^^

I'm not sure, but yes, I think he is in all of them. Biggs and Wedge are another set of reoccuring chars, but they only appear in every other game I believe.
The stories generally arn't connected, they're all different worlds so if your friend told you it was the absolute same char in every single game, I'm going to have to say your friend was wrong :S The name and profile tends to be the same, however the character as an individual is normally a different character entirely ^^

I would need seven coffins to take them all with me. I seriously have THAT many. It's scary as ****. Though since going to university, I decided to take about 20 with me, though decided for safeties sake, I would leave my plush chocobos at home ^^

^^ Yes, I watch anime. I'm not sure we're allowed to talk about them though, however I think a lot of the ones I watch are actually sponsored by SE to begin with :O
However, I tend to watch a majority of the new ones. Though I heard a new SAO is coming out soon. There is a shot in one of the second arc's last episodes which I swear to got was Ul'dah (A city in FFXIV), I actually went on a complete flap out, going through all of my screen shots from the game. Haha x'D I showed the shot to a couple of my friends from the game and they had the exact same thought as me. It made us miss the game more :(

ahaha although in real life i dont know how to be megaflared in the face i pretty inderstand it on final fantasy 13-2....it just rly annoyed me because i had 999999 life and megaflare was 999999 damage :(...although i could block it if i had the timing :D....maybe il try asking my parents but probably it wont work...they are not cool about video games :D....i was hoping they would make final fantasy 14 f2p though...would be awsome...hmm now i rly want to try chocobo (poor little creatures xD)...and exacly cid is in almost every game xD...when i knew that i was like *** why the **** does he appears in every final fantasy?...but my friend told me it was something story related and i thought i was funny to have a character appear in so many different games of so many diferent ages...collecting teddybears must be fun when u reach a point where all of ur room is full of them and u start laughing with no appearant reason...like ahaha i own so much of them!....and they are so cute!...look at this...xD....anyway yea if u like them even though they are in boxes u shouldnjt give them away...i cant imagine the work and the money spent on so many of them!...maybe when u die (may that not be so soon xD) u can take them all with u in ur coffin :D...and its not childish at all!....even adults have a kid on themselves...its healthy to have fun like u used to as a kid xD....btw do you watch animes?...if so wich are your favorite?...sry this is not rly SE related :P

:P I should hope that you don't know what it's like to get megaflared in the face :S that'd just hurt and you're guaranteed to feel that one in the morning haha.
I really hope he does come back, and if he doesn't, he definitely needs a shrine! His involvement in the story was just pure classic in the sense that He knew EVERYTHING and you knew nothing haha :)

I was given a buddy pass from the original collection so I never baught the game myself, wish I had! The goggles that came with one of the preorders were really cool :)
The game is a case where you have to first buy it, you get 30 days free trial at the beginning (I think they're putting that back in, no reason they wouldn't) and then from then on it's something like 10Euro's a month. Perhaps you could convince your parents to pay for you if you give them your allowence in return, or do chores in return, or even do well in school. ^^ That's what I did with my mother when I was playing FFXI, I was young when that came out, so I had to do really well in school and make sure I did chores other wise I wasn't allowed to play. As a result I was alwaysplaying haha x')

Hmmm I think I read somewhere that chocobo's were based off of Emu's, so if an Emu tastes like chicken, then I suppose a chocobo would too :o

The one thing I want to try is actually Potion, if i'm not mistaken it's like lemonade or something, think they only did it limitedly a few years back for an FF-anniversary. I really don't know the details about that, but the bottle it came in was AMAZING! Reaaaaally cool looking!

The character you're thinking about is Cid. :) his variations are always really lively and eccentric, they're really cool. Though I personally wasn't keep on him in XIV, his hair was too flowy! *jealous* But he was still cool, and the original story of Dalamud falling, it's entirely his fault LOL he broke the world x'D

I tried getting into collecting figurines once, but I collected two and got bored, I collect teddybears anyway, my room back home is FULL of them. I'm starting to feel bad for them though Q_Q I never see them anymore and most of them are in bags or boxes >_<;;
I don't want to get rid of them since I know full well they won't go to good homes D:
So I'm going to hang onto them for the rest of my life.

@Xaiphin even if i wanted to answer why i like lightning so much i cant xD...i just like her :D...well thats why i played CC too...i wanted to check the story as a complement...im sry for loui :(...i know the feeling of getting a megaflare in the face (not literaly of course xD)....he was probably "OH ****" and all he could do was smile ahahaha...i never played the final fantasy 14 but for what u've told me and i dont know if im saying this right but maybe Loui comes back on the new one?...btw i allways wanted to ask this to a person that played ff14...did you bought just the CD or montlhy payment is required?...cause i rly want to play the new one and if its montlhy payed im afraid il just play the beta :(....and your not the only one loving chocobos xD...its a pretty good question since there are many characters in all of final fantasys's!...also there is a character that allways appears in all final fantasy's...he drives airships!...cant remember his name...do you know who he is?...if not i can look it up on google shouldnt take too long...but **** he appears on every final fantasy games!(except the ones that dont have airships i guess)...if i could i would collect SE final fantasy related stuff too but im only 16 year old so no credit card for me yet :D....BUT WHEN I TURN 18 IL DEFENETLY BUY STUFF MUAHAHAHAHAH...still 2 years to go :(....btw who knows maybe chocobo tastes like chicken!...ahaha jking...poor chocobos...i think u do well collecting what u like...i also collect japanese figures that are sold here in anime stores but im corrently out of cash so itl take a bit till i buy another one xD

@Rev: I forgot to mention, my favourite voice in relation to FF, most definitely Takahiro Sakurai. He played Cloud in CC and Advent Children. He also voiced for a lot of other favourite characters of mine outside of FF in both game and anime. I really had no idea it was the same guy until I checked :S

In my own opinion I could turn your question around entirely and ask "what is there to like about Lightning?" Since the first time I saw her, visually I think she looked cool, she was a girl with power, but then I played the game, she is such a wet paper bag! Gushing on about life and death, everything is doom and gloom, and I think it must be all down the the voice actor since I just can't handle that voice, it's atrocious! And to make it worse, I have seen more enthusiasm in students in lectures, who spent the previous night drinking copious amounts of beverages they shouldn't have.
Though visually, I'm loving her outfits. Well.. Not so much her second out fit, the feathers didn't do it do me, but the rest did. I think they were going for a Norse? Valkyrie outfit, not sure though, that's just what it reminds me of, and personally I can't stand it.
The new outfit in the LR trailer I WANT. I would do wear that outfit if I could x'D
I'm sorry if that's confusing. I find it so very hard to pin point why I hate that character so darn much :S

Haha I've never completed CC myself either, it's a really good game, but so very male haha x'D I just got bored I guess. SO, I completely cheated it and watched all of the cutscreens on Youtube since they were my only reason for playing lol :D

All of them?! OH MY GOODNESS! My mind reeled and the ONLY name that I could think of in seconds was "Loui!"
Haha He's not my favourite character, he's my current shining light character if you like. He's the elf who got megaflared in the face by Bahamut in the FFXIV End of an Era video.
Q_Q I cried for nearly three days straight! That **** Elezen (elf) was part of my daily real life. The amount of time I spent talking to that character while doing missions with my friends was unbelievable. SE Blasting him in the face like that, and giving him such a **** smile like he resigned to his fate, AAAH! LOOOOUUUUIIII :'(

But via the normal series, I honestly don't know who my favourite character could be. NO! WAIT! I changed my mind, HANDS DOWN!
My favourite character out of all the the FF's.

Chocobo.

:D I'm chocobo mad! I collect anything with chocobos on it x'D I need to get my hands on the 25th anniversary mug next, it's got a chocobo on it! @u@ And I collect mugs anyway haha
But I have four official chocobos from the SE store, and a cheap fake wearing a santa outfit x') I love my chocobo's so much! I also need to get the theatrythm keyring with the chocobo on, but I can't :( the store is down(still) in english. That and I need to wait until my next payment comes in anyway, since I can't eat chocobo, wouldn't taste very nice.

ahaha thats a nice point of view of beating the characters u mostly hate...i thought it was a fun final fantasy as well and i wished the story would be a bit more worked and it lasted longer...nevertheless i ejoyed it well...actually unlike ur tastes lightning is my favorite character although i rly like zidane and the other characters from final fantasy IX alot!...so to answeer my most used characters were lightning and zidane :)...btw what do u dont like about lightning? i find her a rly "boss like" character with an amazing background (could be more detailed and have more story)...i just love her and her contrast with FF XIII...what i liked the most about dissidia ( sry if im repeting myself) was the free battle system (u know running around punching characters in a diferent system than normal ff) and in the same aspect the fast paced game...also i like the fact that they joined all the principal characters from all the other ff....shantoto is a rly awsome character indeed very funny too ^^....and yea ive played crisis core but i dont know why...maybe for a complex reason ive never finished the last boss....i dont rly know why lol...but now that u remembered me of it in the next vacations il end it ^^...from all final fantasys whats ur favorite character? in all aspects so as in story in model in voice( maybe im going a bit too far :D)

@Rev: Haha I would assume there is no edit button purely so people can't be maliscious to each other and change what they've said before a mod gets to see it. I Would assume it's similar in a sense to the old FB then before they finally added edit buttons, that button has saved me many a time from embarrassing typoes.

I cried my eyes out for about a week when I first saw Aerith's finally scene in VII. :S It's still heart wrenching, I loved her as a character, she was very kind but had spark too :D

:) I have indeed played both of the Dissidia's. I instantly groaned with distaste to the fact #2 had Lightning as lead character :( I wanted to pick my lead in story mode. Oh well.
I don't entirely follow the story lines of the two games, from what I came to understand. Chaos and Harmony? are basically seeing who can spit the furthest for the longest. It's the age old playground argument of "my toy is better than your toy!" haha I really couldn't get into the games. But it was a fair bit of fun beating on characters that I really dislike.
I howled with such laughter when it came to Shantoto! So many XI memories haha x')
Hmmm I think the characters I used the most must have beeen mmm... I can't remember D: it's been so long since I last played it!! I THINK it was Cecil and Terra.
Ahh, I miss beating up good old Kefka! I might have to dig the game out again during summer :)
Who did you use the most? or what did you like the most about the games? :D

ahaha with so many series of final fantasy its normal to forget one or two xD...IX had an insaningly awsome story indeed!...i even cryed a bit in the end xD...ur right final fantasy 3 is about onion warriors...main character if im not wrong is onion knight :D...a peculiar character i find him...playind him in the dissidia series...hes awkward but a funny one lol...still u have played more final fantasy than i have and i still want to play more! summer il see some more final fantasys xD...have u played the dissidia series?

I have indeed. I think the only Numbered FF I haven't played is FF3 I believe. I REALLY don't remember the character Luneth (DS version apparently) so I don't think I've played it yet ^^ And I'm too young to have played the NES version of the same game, I believe it had onion warriors or something as the main characters.

I loved IX, it was really very beautiful, I still adore the cinematics even now! I think out of the playstation games, IX is my favourite, it's the definition of fantasy :D

@Xaiphin i as well have been only recently started following SE forums namely the LR final fantasy 13 related and also ff 14....i totaly agree with u SE does have amazing persons under theyr guard and that they r capable of amazing stuff...beeing an art student must be amazing...seeing how the world rly is...appreaciating the nature...and 5 min of u concentrating is probably more than i will any way xD....but ilt try my best i rly want to learn it!!!...and ur right we have to do certain stuff while we are young...non related have u ever played ff9? xD

@Rev: I think such things show that a company like SE really isn't just a big intimidating entity.
I've only recently started following this blog/forum and the FFXIV blog, but it's really inspiring to see that it as an entity can smile and show emotion around its followers.
I truly believe that some of the world greatest minds are under the SE flag, and for me as an art student, it make me feel like the adult world isn't a cold, grey and emotionless place after all.
It shows you can work hard and have fun doing it ^^

:( I'm honestly horrendous at language. I can't even memorise the lyrics to my favourite songs let alone memorise an entire language!!
I should probably take another gander at hiragana at some point though, I'm really good at shape association, so perhaps it'll be easier if I can just sit down and focus for five minutes haha.
I always have something more interesting to do x'D
But seriously, I need to crack on and do it while I still have time.

@Xaiphin k ive send u the friend request ^^( my id should be "loebon")...so you have studied japanese? thats amazing!...ive always wanted to study japanese and in fact i think il start trying it this summer...yes japanese for what ive seen is rly hard but dont let yourself go down for the dificulty!...try to think of it as a big boss at final fantasy that u need to grind to pass it xD(actually thats what im doing right now at ff XIII)..someday ul be speaking japanese like it was your language all along!(just dont forget english xD)

@Rev: Wow! I can barely speak my own language let alone another!
I am UK based, so English is actually the only language I can read and write (Though I have studied some Japanese, i'm absolutely terrible at it!).
It's truly amazing that a game taught you another language entirely. It's a beautiful thing when a story brings about real life magic and wonders :D
^^ I do indeed have a PS3, it isn't currently hooked up (I have to attach it to my monitor) though, the ID is Xaiphin x'D I'm so creative! I more or less use the same ID for everything lol.
And yes, I understand those feelings. Sometimes you do meet some good and interesting people, it's even better when they are like-minded or share your interests.

The rumour about 13vs was announced by a website called Kotaku. Wada the owner(maybe) of SE used his twitter account to discredit the rumour haha x'D How legendary is that?

@Xaiphin now i dont know what to say :D....loved this coment u made...couldnt have been better...well as for me it was final fantasy IX that made me read english ( i am portuguese but i was learning english)...before i dodnt understand the language so good...it was like a thin here and a thing there...then i play ff IX wich made me read xD...sometimes i would take 5 min to read a dialogue but i couldnt take my eyes out of it...it was an amazing story....loved it till the end!...have u ever played ff IX?....as for the notice about ff 13 versus...is it true? is there rly a rumor that they have canceled versus for ps3?...i would love to see it yet to ps3 :(....and even if u did repete urself who cares? your speach is rly rly good :D...u actually made me think ^^....well i can ask u this too...sometimes in the forums u find rly good people that u want to be friends of them....so i wanted to ask if u own a ps3 and ( i guess u must be from europe ) if u can tell me ur nickname so i can add u?...again thx for this amazing speech...it rly got trough me and reminded me how rly ff is all about...even the XIII series wich lots of people speak bad about it but i simply love the story ^^

I believe I was seven when I first played a FF game, it was VII. It actually taught me to read as up to then I COULDN'T read. I was still struggling with books made for four year olds. I even struggled for my own name.
I often went back and forth to my mother asking what a word meant. However, there was one word in that entire game which suddenly sparked everything off for me. In a mere few weeks of playing an amazing story, I was met with the word "ludicrous", I believe it was said by the character Heidegger during a conversation with Scarlet.
That one word, in the entire game, enabled me to finally be able to read, it was like fire works going off in my head.
And the thing is, had I not learned that word then, I would probably have been labled as slow or dyslexic. That game was like opening a door, and I con honestly say if I could rewrite my history, I would NEVER remove that from it.
For my entire life, I have always loved stories, and Square were gods of bringing about stories that inspired me, made me cry, laugh, smile and panic. They weren't just stories, they were worlds that enabled my imagination to flourish and explode with ideas of my own.

However, I didn't get those feeling with XII or XIII, it was like "oh...D: at least it's pretty and the musics awesome!". XIII-2, it returned the feeling I got from the games of the 90's. Such amazing stories that I can guarantee, one day I will be sitting my (future) children down to play them, and eventually their children too. A good story is worthy of eternity.

Also, wasn't it only a few months ago that kotaku started that rumor that SE has canceled descretely XIII-Vs, if I'm not mistaken, within hours, Wada followed up with the disgarding of that rumour saying he had been in a development? meeting for the game.
So essentially it is some form of news though not the kind we all await.

It would be nice if XIII-Vs made it to PS3, however, from that trailer alone, they are working very high tech, it may be required to change it's number and be released next gen due to performance and graphics. Yes it was cinematic that was released for the last info, but seeing him sat in that car, I swear to god that car was real, the environment around the car, was real! I REALLY had to look close to see the CGI, it was just too unbelievable! I for one have never seen anything look so real, but not be. The future is going to be so cool! x')

@Mad_Angel I also don't have high expectations for LR to be honest. I mean I love the XIII games, but I loved XIII more than XIII-2, and from what I've seen of LR, it looks interesting, but so much has changed since XIII that it just doesn't look like the same game anymore.

I don't expect it to release this year either, I was just saying it would be a nice surprise if they did. But it will more than likely be before next December, not unless they are planning to put it on PS4 as well as PS3? Because undoubtedly PS4 will be released by then. But I mean, you have to give Square Enix some credit here, at least they try to fix their mistakes.

@zumo34 Yeah, I think so too. My guess is next December cause by then LR will be released and SE will need to do some brand damage control (I do not have high for LR and I think it will bomb harder then the other two XIII games did).

AS for the release date, no way vsXIII will release this year and I think that is precisely the reason why the FFXIII saga (and FFXIV) is so viciously received by fans: Those games are the sole reason why vsXIII is constantly delayed and put on hold.

@Mad_Angel I think they will probably will give some more information in 2013, more than likely towards the end of the year though. They will probably make some marketing from it for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, for example if you buy LRFFXIII you will get something in FFvsXIII etc.

Who knows, I could be completely wrong, maybe they will surprise us with a release this year! Which would be incredibly nice! :)

@Rev_Hell that's exactly what I said. SE released this trailer way back in 2011, Jan 26th 2011 to be more precise, we all watched it two years ago, and since then complete radio silence. I mean, we were told to forget about vsXIII for a while, then Nomura said that 2012 was the year of vsXIII. But 2012 come and go with no new announcements. Now SE says 2013 will be real deal but I'm starting to lose faith in their word as I was burned way to many times before...

@Xaiphin ul probably hate me for this but at first when a friend( i was very young) told me about final fantasy, at first i didnt rly liked it but i actually had never tryed it so who was i to say i did not liked it? xD....so my friend actually bought me final fantasy 9 just for me to try it and for the next 3 months i spent my after school days playing it, loving every moment and regreting what i said about fianl fantasy at the beggining....as for my favorite final fantasy, ive played a lot(not all of them unfortunately) of them but i can say that the XIII serie is my favorite...cant decide about if it is just ff 13 or ff 13-2 because when i played both i cannot think of them as a separate game but as a single story (as it will be completed with the arrival of ff 13 lightning returns). i was honestly amazed by the story of the 13 series itself and the story of some of the characters ( actually for me lightning was a key character at the series...i found her rly boss like althought i can say this....they tell the story of lightning without telling it...i rly appreciate the mystery though ^^)

@Rev Aww :) Thanks for asking! Haha I grew up playing rpgs like most people here I think.

I actually really like the XIII series. Though the first game I honestly found far too linear, character development was what felt to be almost none existant, I found a lot of good moments about that first game, and will forever love the ending of it, it was so breath taking :D
XIII-2, in all honesty is a game I will love until the end of time *cough*. I found it's story so much like the games I grew up playing is was such a beautiful hit of nostalgia. I really liked both main characters and personally was glad for so little of lightning since as a character, I feel she needs a nice hard slap.
I was happy, very happy for the intensive development on story and chars. x') up until I played it, my favourite FF was a battle between 4 and 6, but this game took me by such a suprise. It was so beautiful, fun, interactive and full blow exciting!

As a whole on the XIII saga, I think it is a game series which is held with too little regard. Fan's seem to think these games grow on trees, but the people behind them put sweat blood and tears into every second of them. Yes, #1 was an accident in term of story and game play, but as a GAME, it fulfilled it's purpose of being fun and complete eye candy.
And I'll end up repeating myself five more times if I talk about #2 any longer.

As for the trailer itself just search online, the game was just announced for the WiiU... All I can say without breaking forum's rules is that seeing someone hopping into a giant mech which then transforms into an airship that traverses high up in the sky the area we just navigated by foot remembered me how HD FF should have looked like. But apparently for Toriyama/Kitase HD towns and maps and areas are just too hard and impossible to do...

Grimoir just finished reading the impressions...loved the comments the guy who wroted it is awsome...i think that every one that wants to give an opinion to this final fantasy should read it...he couldnt have descrived my feelings to this game better...thx for the post ^^
