"11:30: Producer Yoshinori Kitase takes the stage.
11:32: He jokes that there have been much speculation about the possibilities -- smart phone games, social, etc.
He confirms that the new game is a new game for a console.
11:33: After some photography rules, along with a demonstration of how he will be posting updates to Twitter, Kitase introduces director Motomu Toriyama.
11:35: The new FF game is an all new game connected to XIII.
The concept is represented by a flower, which he's showing on the screen. The flower has many meanings. Like the flower, the new title has many concepts.
11:36: Toriyama introduceds two keywords.
First, Lightning Returns.
Yes, Lightning is the Lightning we all know (this gets some laughs from the audience).
11:37: The Lighthing they want to revive today is the Lightning as shown in the original game.
11:38: Next, he moves on to XIII-2. Here, Lightning has crossed human level and is more like a god.
11:40: Toriyama shows scenes from XIII-2's Lightning DLC.
The Lightning they show will be even stronger than in the first two games.
11:41: Next concept keyword: "World Driven.""
"11:46: The new game is officially titled Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII.
The game will have some sort of connectivity with the real world, apparently through Facebook. Details will be announced later.
11:54: They're talking about Lightning's customization.
Players will be able to select from a variety of Lighthing costumes.
There will be a lot of costumes -- not at the level of 10 or 20, but a lot more. They're currently looking into this area, so they can't share the final number.
The costumes can themselves be customized through parameters. Details will be shared later.
11:55: Lighting's weapons -- you can equip Lightning with big weapons.
11:56: They're developing the game with button response in mind, although they won't necessarily go so far as to call it an action game.
11:56: Art director Kamikokuryo takes the stage.
11:57: Kamikokuryo takes the stage.
The game is set in an area called Navus Partus.
12:00: Next, he shows some of the world artwork, detailing some of the architecture.
He also shows some parts, like a sofa, a phone, a telephone booth -- some of these have a retro feel, he notes.
12:01: Next, a look at some of the designs for the world residents.
12:01: Next, he shows a monorail. This monorail connects the islands of the world.
12:04: Kamikokuryo debuts his latest oil painting, which he was working on until yesterday. It's probably not totally dry, he says.
He takes off the cover and the crowd cheers.
The artwork is meant to represent an image for Lightning Returns.
12:06: Kitase takes the stage and introduces a message from Maaya Sakamoto, Lightning's voice actress.
12:08: About Kamikokuryo's oil painting...
It's his first oil painting in 10 years.
He set up a studio in his office and spent one month making it.
12:09: After Sakamoto, Kitase takes the stage and closes things off.
I'm closing off the live blog! Thanks for reading, and sorry for the technical difficulties!
The game will have a facebook page at : www.facebook.com/LightningReturnsFFXIII"
I guess we'll see how the gameplay turns out. Would have been nice to see some actual screenshots of the game and not just concept art. Hard to believe that the game will be released next year (in Japan at least).

The 25th Anniversary is looking great so far and looking forward to checking the blog out tomorrow about the Lightning Saga~
With any luck I may have some will power to stay up for it.
The collecters box is awesome, however I am not in a position to be able to spend that much money lol. :D
I must say, I love the new Amano disc art, and I really would love to have the mini Amano art with stand. I'd be happy if I could get that art on it's own to be honest.
Pleeeaseeee look into it Ben, any FF 25th anniversary product news would be brilliant.
I think it's pretty cool Sony dusted off the old PS1 and PS2 disc press thingy for Square-Enix though.
i suppose if ppl got the money to burn while money are tight due to money bank issues, you are mega rich :).
ah ben i shall start saving up for it then but still minus 2 games like i said ;)
Even just the three volume books, minus the PlayStation content would be awesome to see - if given any western release (thus negates any console exclusivity).
Sounds like an idea publishing job for Piggyback ? Could bring the costs down somewhat.
Speaking of new games prices... you would be very hard pushed to find a "new" Euro copy of Final Fantasy Anthology sub £70.
And like Tanthalas said, it's a collectors item. Put 'Limited' or 'Collectors' and 'Brand New' or 'Sealed' together on an item description, and the price just goes higher. That's just how it is, even if it is stupid and bias. However, looking at it from a consumer point of view (because I personally would open this box up and use the games since I haven't played some of them, as well as some of the other items), I think it is a good deal. It's like the FFXIII-2 Crystal Edition. It sounds steep, but add the RRP/New price of each item in the box together, and you'll find it works out cheaper than buying individually. That's how I see it.
ff6 when 1st come out it was £9.99 the FF7 8 & 9 were £19.99 as plat budget range now those games we cant get now plus i know about the extra stuff but 25 quid is to much brand new or preowned.
so that september 1st on that website was UK date not Japan date. :O
Regardless, its a collector's item, that's why its expensive.

only 2 of them we never had ff3 till now it coming on PSP soon & we never had ff11 for EU so i doubt we get the Box set
@zumo34, Same here. I've only played a few of them, so it would be great to get them all, plus, whenever I see a PS1 copy (which is usually damaged) on the high street, they always seem to ask a ridiculous price like £30, so I guess the price for the box set at the moment (£280 I think it was) is actually really cheap when you consider what's with it. Let's just hope if it is released here, they don't inflate the price to round it up or something like that.
As for the Japan/UK time difference, I not really sure. But yeah, just looked it up to be sure and IGN is stating it's at 11:30. Thanks zumo.
SE should also make an anniversary collection with all the soundtracks too.
@Ben Bateman
So, we should check the blog in the morning for the news?
And yes, visit the blog in the morning.
As for the Lightning presentation I believe I read some where it started at 11:30am JST. So that would make it 2:30am in the UK. =/ That's if the time I read was right and if I got my conversion right. I believe Japan are 9 hours in front right?
As for the presentation my lips are sealed. All I can say is I'm making some preparations as we speak and that you might want to check the blog tomorrow.
You would think so, considering Final Fantasy is such a massive global brand.
Typically and sadly a regional exclusive no doubt. That boxset is priced mighty fine though.
As for the 'Lightning Saga' presentation, does anyone know what time it starts (UK time)?
Final Fantasy 13 Tactics XD
Oh yeeeahhh!!!
just to let you know i keep you a breast of things.
i think it nearly over now.
so onward tomorrow announcement.
it just reported that naked snake AKA is big boss is back in a "open world" MGS
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2012/08/30/next-metal-gear-game-is-open-world-planned-for-current-gen-systems/
so the MGS 25th anniversary event is now in progress so what does this mean for the SE event well it will be tomorrow friday that we find out what lighting sega game it will be.
will you be able to give us a time though for the announcement? (at a later date) since it could be 11pm at night or later for some of us
Initially I thought the same - some other kind of media maybe. Yoshinori Kitase confirmed, it is a game.
... If I turn the screen upside down XD
http://www.finalfantasy.jp/
it right down the bottom 1st picture on the Left.
That would be a Shock wouldn't it being SE track record of late of not listening, That may happen you can bet a pound it be muti platform as well remember xbots too want to know what happen after to noel & Mog + lighting & sis.
we soon found out won't we in less then a week even then SE being mean teases they could just announce the title but not which platform it will be & no release date too because i think it just started development some months ago.
i love lightning farron
Man can't wait for this, please be XIII-3, please, please, please. We want more Lightning!
Is this going to be a game or a movie like Advent Children?
"The title of the website has GAME in it. So no worries there!"
Cheers Jonttutan, @Square_Portal
YEAY!!!
