Tokyo Game Show 2012 Lineup

The Tokyo Games Show (hosted in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan) is naturally an important event for everyone here. Homeland to the mother-ship that is Square Enix, you can expect a wide range of games to be on show. Naturally being held in Japan expect to hear about a number of titles that aren't scheduled to hit our shores, but it's still a fantastic eye-opener nevertheless.

 

This year at the Tokyo Game Show Square Enix will be showing the following titles:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (360 PS3, PC. Published by Square Enix in Japan Only)
  • Chosoku Henkei Gyrozetter (Arcade Japan Only)
  • Slime Mori Mori DRAGON QUEST 3: Daikaizoku to Shippodan (3DS Japan Only)
  • DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: Terry no Wonderland 3D (3DS Japan Only)
  • DRAGON QUEST X (Wii Japan Only)

 

For our European fans we know there are some very important titles that you eager to hear about that aren't on the list. Unfortunately if it's not in this blog post then don't expect any surprises. Still, there's plenty of interesting games that are definitely worth you hearing about.

 

We'll be reporting from the event so if there's any specific games you want us to look at or any questions you have about them let us know in the comments below and we'll do are darndest to help you out.

Apparently the next gen of PSs wont see the light for another couple of years, which I think is fine -
Though I wish to see what they could do next.

FF titles has a certain status to it, and I have to say that if ex.Versus was out for PSIV, I'd deffo buy it, even though I have PSI-PSIII from earlier.

so the old black box gets great games for 3 years. so what does it mean for Next gen then?

so here a thought what would happn if a FF title hits Ps4/720 & not Ps3? because a FF title is a great title is it not? ^_-

That is good news that FF3 PSP release in west, but of course it had to be out in NA 1st we don't want to upset the trend [NA to get things 1st] do we now.

i see a pattern here it actually like Sony has been doing funny that.

but we wanna know when it be release here in EU, i buy that full version with movie intro that the IOS version should have.

Day 1 buy for my PSP & Vita: will it be a download however on PSN? because all of your other titles are not SE KH-BBS, FF-CC these 2 games are most requested to come on our store with most asked for imports.

care to explain SE & Fanboys why certain games gets top billing & well known titles gets the boot?

I have been waiting for FFX HD - hoping that would be out so that I could relive FFX in HD while waiting for Versus.. Too bad that wont happen the first time around.
I agree with you, Tanthalasas, it is kind of depressing.

Kind of depressing that they announced and confirmed KH HD as a 2013 release (in Japan at least), but FFX HD's was announced a year ago and we still have no news about a release window for it.

Maybe I am being optimistic but does anyone else think that the collection will come to Xbox 360 outside of Japan as well? I understand the PS3 brand is far superior in the Japan region but I hope that does not mean its exclusive outside of Japan. Square Enix normally do not release their games for the 360 in Japan due to the low sales performance, however in Europe and America the sales window is huge for both consoles.

I really, really hope so :(

Any news on Parasite Eve 3 or something of that sort featuring Aya Brea? SQEX needs to right the wrong they did on The 3rd Birthday. Honestly, I've been a big PE fan since it came out, and T3B pretty much ruined the whole series because of it's horrible story. Don't make me loose faith and trust in you SQEX.....

At last years TGS show, it was announced that FF X would be getting a HD remaster. Since February, there has been no news on this except that it was started. Will there be news about the progress at this years event??

I am confident that Versus will be out when its out, but I wish that there could be some official confirmation on FF Type-0's western release, be it a port on vita, a PSN download or otherwise.

FFv13 is in development still. And yes I believe every region is getting it.

And Ben has already said can't say anything about the localisation of FF TYPE 0. He always updates the blog with this type of detail. Just wait a little longer.

Regarding Versus XIII and FF TYPE-0: The "Project Crystallis" petition I mentioned below has received 600 signatures in two days. Impressive, I must say. Finally a constructive way of showing some eagerness towards these two games. (Maybe it should be said that I have not signed this list myself since I don't mind waiting/importing the games from Japan.)

Hey Ben :) Ye I would also love to have a site like the American Square Enix, or something along those lines. Forums and other such features such as clubs or groups that have similar interests such as not just video games but manga, comics, books, mods. All those kind of things. I often think that Square would benefit greatly from being a role model when it comes to community because it would really advertise and indulge itself with the fans and make their games even more attractive to new customers. With strong brands such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and others, extensive community features is a major step forward.

@ben i got a great idea we discuss out souce yesterday why dont you tell the big wigs to out souce to SCEE to publish your backlog imports.

i have a SCEA PSN account on their store your games doesn't say publiish by Square enix Ltd nope it says publiish by SCEA, so you give them the go ahead to publish your games but not SCEE.

on our store 1 example wild arms a SCEA title it says publiish by SCEE.

The line-up is kind of disappointing for me because its missing a lot of stuff that I'd like to see.

FFXIV being there is great, but I'm surprised that there's no mention of the new FFXI expansion.

Bravely Default still not being considered for an EU release is very disappointing.

Was also hoping to see a bit more of Tomb Raider.

I think that FFIII on the PSP could at least have a PS Store release in the west since the PSP has been abandoned over here.

Then we have FFX HD that was announced at TGS last year, but still nothing new about it? If its taking so long to release the game I hope it actually has a lot more than a mere visual face-lift. I wish you guys would speed up its release because I'd like a FFX-2 and FFXII HD too.

I was actually hoping that a Type-0 HD for the Vita was in the works to give us Europeans some hope of playing the game.

But above all, I really hope that SE has some kind of surprise announcement at TGS. I know you guys announced Lightning Returns last week, but it would be nice to see another big announcement of a new AAA title.

(The travelling paleontologist that I am, I seldom stay in one and the same place for long. Therefore I have a EU account for the EU editions of my games and a NA account for my NA copies. When keeping the EU and NA SEM sites open in two different tabs they sometimes "cross over", making my EU account post on the NA site and my NA account post here on SEM EU. It's not a problem, but it's still somewhat weird whenever it happens.)

Sorry to say but what an incredibly weak line-up. After a disappointing E3 I thought SE would show something big in its home country. What we get? A game that is already in stores, Hitman (big fan but Eidos not SE), an MMORPG no one cares about but continues to drain resources like a sponge, a slew of remakes, ports, handheld games, and, finally, another MMORPG already in stores...
I don't ask much, just give us a 5 second trailer shot offscreen from a 1MP shaky cam of FFvsXIII and you make me a believer again.
